Behavioural Question

I have a friend who always refers to himself by name as if he were talking about someone else. e.g. He will say 'Mike did it'; but the problem is he is Mike. I would like to know what kind of individual refers to himself like that. Normally we would say 'I did it'.

Is there any psychological study that will throw more light on this behaviour?
