Peter Parker from Spider-Man 2 "loses" his powers due to his psychological issue of MJ dating another guy. It isn't until he must save her that his powers return.

Do you remember the movie Bambi? Well in that movie the mother deer gets shot. Plenty of people claim they saw the mom get shot but this is not true and it's all psychological. She is shot off screen and you never actually see the shooting. Also the psychological impact was extreme even converting people to either veigans or non-hunters.
