Best Interests of My Child

by Neeta
(India)

I am a mother of a 5 year old adoptive child. I got divorced 2 weeks ago after a nasty divorce process which dragged on for 3 years. I was given custody and the right to leave the country with my child.

My ex now wants to see my child within 6 weeks of leaving the country. We have not even had a chance to settle down here i.e. finding a new place to live etc. I need to understand what is best for my child. She is trying to settle in with me in a new country sending her to him so soon after the move will surely prevents her from settling in and feeling secure.

I need to understand what is the time frame that my child should have to settle into a new life before she spends 3-6 weeks with her father.

Thanks for your help.
